RIDE'N WITH THE BOYZ
FEBRUARY 14, 2009

 Birch Hills Derby
We pull out of MacDowall at about 10 am, heading due east, cross-country for the South Branch River valley.  We had thought that the Birch Hills poker derby would of been nice, but we got pretty casual  and just stopped at a restaurant in town for a nice "sit down meal" and headed towards the Weldon Ferry crossing. With the round trip, fuel was just OK getting back to Birch Hills, to refill a 3rd time for the trip back to Macdowall. To Weldon and back to Macdowall we crossed the derby route several times.
Catching site of some snow dust on the horizon, then running down some straggler in the middle of no where............occurred a couple of times. We followed some older tracks along the South Branch
and enjoyed an unofficial "tour".

Having just crossed over what seemed like a large snow bank...

A close up reveals a large tree laying in the tree line, under the snow. (where else would a tree lay)

Nice
banks, hopefully no more hidden trees!

The Old Adams Crossing

We roll into Birch Hills for lunch.

After lunch we head for Weldon crossing.

Over looking the South Branch down stream from the Weldon crossing.

Parked next to the cliff above the South Branch near St. Louis.

Doesn't look
15 feet down, does it?

One of those perfect banks "in the middle of no where"
